Yoga One Teachers in Training

We are excited to introduce some of our trainees to the public. These trainees are currently enrolled and training in Yoga One's 200hr yoga teacher training program. When they graduate they will be certified though yoga alliance and YogaOne to teach at the 200 hr yoga alliance standard! We are starting to offer classes with them with the intention for them to practice and refine their skills and confidence, so they feel ready to embark on their professional career journey as a yoga teacher in the near future! Join Yoga One in supporting this process by taking classes with them! They are ready to have fun and learn with you. They are also open to feed back and grateful to have you to practice with, in a symbiotic mutual yoga practice. All the teachers here are already trained in safety, alignment, etiquette, and professionalism. They are practicing putting into action their skills. This is also a great option if you are looking for a way to practice within a limited budget, or looking to try yoga to see if its a investment that is going to work for you, as all classes are donation based!

Hey Yogi’s!  I’m excited to be here as a current student of the 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training through Yoga Alliance at Yoga One.  Once graduation happens in early April,  I aspire to continue education in several areas of expertise including Restorative Yoga, Yin Yoga, and Yoga Nidra.A little more about me,  I am a Certified Holistic Health and Life Coach, and Intuitive Guide.   I believe we each have the wisdom and power within us to make our life be what we want it to be. I look at my coaching relationships and teachings as an alliance.  A partnership.  A process of inquiry, that empowers individuals to reconnect with their own inner wisdom, to find their own answers, to rediscover those powerful moments of choice out of which lasting change grows in all aspects of healthy body, healthy mind, and overall self-love.

“It’s never too late to try something new, and it’s never too soon to start.”

I first came to yoga asana as part of my gym routine. It quickly became my entire fitness routine. I have been practicing consistently for about four years and am currently in RYT-200 training at Yoga One. I decided to pursue yoga teacher training to deepen my own practice and to gain the tools to be able to safely help others along their yoga journey.

I am an RYT-200 Teacher in Training at Yoga One with a graduation date of April 2018. I was introduced to Yoga in 2003 when I bought my first mat and beginner yoga dvd and began practicing at home.  I was first enticed by the grace of yoga, the challenging poses and the way the movement flowed; so vinyasa yoga was the perfect match for me. Elsa and the teacher training opened up this whole new world of yoga you can't get from a dvd. Imagine taking something you absolutely love and then finding out there is even more to learn, to share and to love in the process. I'm excited and honored to share that bliss with you, the student.

Melissa Olson, NASM-CPT, BCS. Balance and Bliss is about finding balance in our practice, our bodies, and our minds. This class series is a vinyasa yoga flow that may be suitable for beginners with some prior vinyasa yoga experience. Over the course of seven weeks, the intention will be to introduce and progress our practice in seated, standing leg and arm balances. Consider that balance isn't just how well one can stand on one leg but rather it is about finding the space where movement ends and stillness begins.  The bliss comes at the end of class with a 5-10 minute guided meditation during savasana.  The cost is a free-will donation.  Though this is a series, you may come to any class at any time.  I believe anyone can start right where they are.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions.  Wednesdays 12-1pm April 4-May 16th.

Power Flow Thursdays 9-10:15a   with Shannon is targeted toward students who are practicing at a Level 1 or higher and are looking for a challenging flow. We begin by tuning into our breath, chanting “Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo (the Adi Mantra) I bow to the Creative Wisdom, I bow to the Divine Teacher within.”  This prepares us to set intention for the practice. We may also incorporate strong meditation through Pranayama (breath) techniques to sharpen our focus toward our intention. Incorporating a deeper level into the postures working over time toward the more complex arm balances and inversions. Our flow will be powerful focusing on our breath and working up a sweat. We will work deeply on core strength and balancing poses connecting through challenging transitions for strengthening. We will complete class with a grounding Savasana. Surrendering from our practice, breath and body. Ending each class with the mantra “May the long time sun shine upon you, all the love surround you and the pure light within you, guide your way on.”

Shannon Berns

I began taking ballet at the age of three. Dance has continued to be a passion of mine spanning many years of instruction, practice and exploration of its many forms. As a native of Alexandria, I am a Dancin’ off Broadway Alumnus, taking instruction there through high school. Continuing my love for movement, I became interested in yoga and have been practicing for 15+ years and am a member of Yoga One. I love that Barre offers a combination of both of these disciplines with influences of aerobics and strength components.

I am currently pursuing my passion for yoga and continuing education. I am currently enrolled in the Yoga One 200 hr Yoga Teacher Training certification program. Watch for me as I begin my journey as a yoga instructor here at Yoga One.

Shannon is an ABT certified instructor.

BARRE classes are Monday 9-10am and Friday morning from 9-10am. These classes are drop in rate.
